FAQ

Do you charge for an initial visit?

No, we do not charge for the initial consultation. As a courtesy to you and your family dentist, we will discuss the feasibility of braces or tooth straightening during the visit at no charge.

At what age do you start seeing patients?

We typically evaluate young patients after the eruption of their 6-year molars and the appearance of the front permanent teeth, usually around ages 6 to 8. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends an initial visit by age 7.

Why do you evaluate patients so young?

Early evaluation allows us to observe and inform rather than begin treatment. At this age, we can identify potential future orthodontic needs and discuss any necessary interventions. While only a small percentage may need treatment, we evaluate habits and medical issues and set up a monitoring schedule until the patient is ready for treatment.

How long will the first visit take?

The first visit typically lasts between 30 minutes and 1 hour. It may involve a visual exam and a discussion of the patient’s condition, or we may suggest additional diagnostics like X-rays, impressions, and photographs of the teeth.

Do you take patients transferring from out of town?

Yes, we welcome patients transferring from other locations. Please have your current orthodontist complete a transfer form to release the patient from their care.

Do you have any adult patients?

Yes, a growing number of our patients are adults. Thanks to advances in more cosmetic orthodontic appliances, adult treatment is more comfortable and convenient than ever. Learn more about adult orthodontics here.

What is the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist?

An orthodontist is a dentist who has completed at least two additional years of specialized education in orthodontics, resulting in a national certification. Orthodontists focus specifically on straightening teeth and dentofacial orthopedics.

Can I make all my appointments in the afternoon after school and late in the day?

We strive to accommodate your schedule by offering early and late appointments. However, some procedures must be done between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to ensure we can serve all our patients effectively.

Do you see patients for emergencies?

Yes, we handle emergencies and provide contact information for urgent situations on our website. Please visit our emergency care page for more details.

Can we make payments?

Yes, we offer flexible payment plans whether or not you have insurance. Payment schedules are typically structured to align with your treatment timeline. Learn more here.

How do you handle insurance?

We verify your insurance coverage and bill directly to the insurance carrier. However, if your coverage changes or is discontinued, you will remain responsible for the remaining balance.

Do you take American Express, MasterCard, and/or Visa?

Yes, we accept all major credit cards, including American Express, MasterCard, and Visa.

Do you have direct debit?

Yes, we offer direct debit options, charge card postings, and online payment options for added convenience.

Do you charge interest?

No, we do not charge interest on payments.

Do you give family discounts?

Yes, we offer special programs and reduced fees for multiple family members undergoing treatment.

I need to be pre-medicated for the dentist. Do I need to take my medicine to the orthodontist?

Yes, if your dentist has prescribed medication for your dental visits, please take it as instructed for your orthodontic appointments as well.

Do retainers need to be worn after braces?

Yes, retainers must be worn full-time for about 6 months following braces treatment, and then worn at night indefinitely to maintain your results.

Why do teeth get crooked after wearing braces or clear aligners?

Teeth naturally shift as part of the aging process, even after orthodontic treatment. This is why we recommend continued retainer wear to keep your teeth straight throughout your life.
